  • 2- Literature, rhetoric, and criticism.

Plans, Curricula, and Detailed Syllabi

The department offers its program according to the following stages:

  • 1- Course studies
  • 2- Thesis
  • 3- Comprehensive examination for the doctorate stage

The details are as follows:

Masters of Arabic Language and Literature Program

Language, grammar, and morphology branch:

- Specialization 1: Language

- Specialization 2: Grammar and morphology

Literature, rhetoric and criticism branch:

- Specialization 1: Literature

- Specialization 2: Rhetoric and criticism

Studies in the master's stage are based on academic courses and a thesis. The postgraduate studies regulations (1/33) state that "Credit units shall not be less than twenty four credits, and there shall be a thesis in addition."

Accordingly, thirty two credits are allocated for the syllabi to be given in two terms, with sixteen credits in each term. Eighteen credits are allocated for the thesis.

The nature of this stage requires that all learning be learner-centered and stresses the importance of intensive student participation through development of scientific content and dialog. Professors should stimulate these notions in the student and should focus their efforts on mentoring and guidance.

There are two branches under postgraduate studies of Arabic: language and literature. Each branch is further divided into two specializations. The language branch consists of two specializations: language, and grammar and morphology, whereas the literature branch consists of two specializations: literature, and rhetoric and criticism.

Courses are offered for each branch and its two specializations according to a standard learning plan. As to the topic of the thesis, it is determined according to the minute specialization field for which the degree is to be granted.
