The educational program is an outcome-based program focusing on the learning outcomes and competencies of the graduate dentist, rather than on the content & process.
The program is built on horizontal integration between the units within each academic year and vertical integration between subjects studied from the second to the sixth year (excluding the first preparatory year studied by all students of health sciences faculties). The integration between basic sciences and clinical topics as well as the early clinical exposure enforce the learning process.
The program focuses on dental practice that is centered on promotion of community health, rather than on merely treating diseases.
The program values an integrated dental practice dealing with all aspects of patients health, including social, psychological and physical aspects.
The program focuses on the principles of research methodology and community dental service.
The existence of elective courses gives the student an opportunity to see the latest science and technology in dentistry and broadening understanding and personal interests.
The education approach adopted in the faculty is a creative curriculum using the latest methods of teaching and evaluation practices used globally. Since the Faculty of Dentistry, Umm Al-Qura University is utilizing various creative teaching techniques, the faculty assessment philosophy does not focus on assessing the students' knowledge and skills, but focuses on the extent to which the student has achieved the expected learning outcomes in each unit.
