Origin:

The College of Education as part of King Abdulaziz University from Rajab 1390 to Rajab 1401 AH: As of Rajab 1390, the College of Education became a university college when it was merged into King Abdulaziz University. During that period, academic departments were established successively and the college eventually comprised the following departments:

  • § Department of Islamic Education
  • § Department of Curricula and Teaching Methods
  • § Department of Psychology
  • § Department of Art Education
  • § Department of Physical Education (Sports)
  • § Department of Nursery Education
  • § The Training Courses Center ‎
  • § Department of Educational Administration and Planning

The College of Education as part of Umm Al-Qura University from Rajab 1401 AH to date: Since its inception in Rajab 1401 AH, Umm Al-Qura University has been vigorous and well established. It started with two old colleges; the College of Education and its elder sister, the College of Shari`ah. Henceforth, new colleges were established, some of which took over departments from the College of Education as follows:

  • 1- The departments of chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics were transferred from the College of Education to the College of Applied and Engineering Sciences, which was established in 1402/1403 AH.
  • 2- The departments of geography and English language were transferred to the College of Social Sciences, which was established in 1404/1405 AH.

Objectives:

In addition to the general objectives of Umm Al-Qura University, the College of Education in Makkah seeks to achieve its own objectives as follows:

  • - Developing teachers who are scientifically, educationally and professionally qualified to undertake teaching of all existing and contemplated additional subjects in public intermediate and high schools
  • - Developing the human resources (other than teachers) that are required in schools, including principals, supervisors, and educational advisors, in addition to the human resources necessary for the different specializations of educational administration
  • - Providing on-the-job training for teachers and all of those who work in the field of education, including principals, supervisors, and educational advisors, to improve their skills and increase their professional experience, in addition to acquainting them with the new developments in the different educational fields
  • - Contributing to raising the educational levels in the country and participating in enriching scientific research in all educational and psychological fields
  • - Improving the professional skills of teachers and all of those who work in the educational sector by providing specialized postgraduate programs in the field of educational and psychological sciences
  • - The college also seeks to guide its teaching staff, students, and administrative staff spiritually and morally so as to develop values that would help them interpret the teachings of Islam into positive behavior based on monotheism and the belief in Allah as the Lord and in Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the Prophet and Messenger.
  • - Participating with other educational institutions, such as universities, in conducting educational and psychological studies, with the aim of developing public and university education as well as offering situation-specific scientific advice.
